Stemming from the concept of closure, the term cloze means filling in or supplying the missing parts of an incomplete or mutilated message in order to restore meaning to the whole. Students arrive at conclusions by using prior knowledge, a general understanding of the material, phonetic clues, semantic and syntactic information, context clues and a consideration of the parts in relationship to the whole.
